Ernest Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea in 1951. This short novel "shows the outcome of one man’s endurance in the midst of defeat, and how the friendship of a young boy gives him hope." (Roso, 200, p.5).
The novel tells us the story of Santiago, a fisherman who "is soon to catch something larger than he can ever imagine" (Roso, 200, p.5). In one part of the novel, Santiago says: "You'll not fish without eating while I'm alive."
