Read Franz Kafka's, The Metamorphosis book and answer to the following questions.
1. Discuss the theme of “isolation” in Metamorphosis.
2. How does The Metamorphosis illustrate the following maxim: “The more you do for someone, the more that someone takes you for granted.”
3. Discuss the central events in each of the three sections of the story. In what ways do these events suggest that the weakening of Gregor results in the strengthening of the family as a whole?
4. What is the significance of the minor characters in the story—the manager, the three boarders, and the cleaning women?
5. What is the importance of the final scene in the story, the family’s trip to the country? Why is it written so lyrically in comparison to the rest of the text which is presented in more of an “objective” journalistic style?
The phrase illustrates the metamorphosis, since the more you know and the more things you do for a person, the more you are influenced by that person and can in a certain way transform you. This is why when Gregor is weakened the actions of his family influence him, so to speak, and this helps them to become more united as a family. It is also very important the participation of the children in the story because they have a greater impact on Gregor, it is also important the participation of the interns and the cleaning woman because Gregor can feel more supported and important by people who are not very important in his life. The end of the story is important and is written in a lyrical way compared to the rest of the story as it seeks to leave us a teaching.
